How old were you when you learned how to play chess and what attracted you to ♟ chess.

I don't remember when I learned to play chess, or who taught me, but at 9 I already knew to play. Anyway, I stopped for a few years and started actually studying 2 years ago

Hey, Mikekalish, since you’re into woodworking, check out the Cutty Sark model I built. Us geezers need more than chess.

WOW! You're way out of my league! That looks 1000 times more difficult than a chessboard....and 1000 times cooler too!

I learned as I was 13 from my father in which is played our very first game. I had a imagination and a huge determination to get to the top of the charts. Taking every kingdom down as I come across I continued to think to myself. Plus, I would not mind being a part of a calm game. I guess it's not that calm anymore, considering every time I win or lose I end up getting trash talked. Sucks. The game gives you life lessons. Including patience and calculation.

it just felt like a "whole new world with acceptance" back then cause its the only thing i had

I learned when I was 3 and have played tournaments (OTB) for 20+ years now (1900 FIDE and main lichess on a different account).

In 2019 me and my dad went to a sports shop to get me a bike( I was 11 and needed a new one)

and we also got a chess board then Covid happened and I just went to online school and did nothing for 8 months so I decided to play chess cuz I still hadn't used it yet so I played with my dad every day for 2 months once he came back from work then I started using chess.com then I played everyday for 8months or so then life stuff hit and I haven't played in a while I recently started again

I think mine was in elementary school. I had a big chess board back in the attics, and at first I just got immersed in the game myself. During the game, there's only you, your opponent, the oakwood pieces and perhaps the tapping of pieces landing on new spaces. Later on I found this website, of course, and enjoyed the game further with millions of players around the world! grin.png

Learned when I was seven years old, and started taking it more seriously after moving to the Netherlands with my parents in 1999 . Joined a local chess club for a few years, then gave it up after finding other interesting stuff, such as cycling 🚴‍♀️

Interesting. I actually cycled seriously for 30 years and finally gave it up for a leaking heart valve (which has since been replaced) and took up chess AFTER cycling.

I NEED to take up cycling 🚴 so that I can be a more well-rounded person! I grew up on motorcycles and am sorely tempted to get one but then decided Naaah! 🏍

Pegusu cycling is really good way to keep fit and healthy, also each year I participate in sponsor cycling event for cancer, it’s called “ The Ride For The Roses 🌹 “ participants can choose to ride 25,50, or 100 kilometres.

Thanks! Fun way to "bust a sweat"..... and I had no idea what a "good cause" it would turn out to be when I signed up for it. wink

Pegusu

Thanks to all of u who ride bikes to raise money for cancer, MS, and other serious conditions. As a late stage head and neck cancer survivor, I ESPECIALLY thank you! Ur the best!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
