You can be an admin of a group, just not a Super Admin.

You need to be made one by your group's Super Admin. If you make yourself useful for a while you may get invited, or if you have a friend with premium you could get them to start a group and make you admin.

Some are born admins, others have admin status thrust upon them.
I have been given a whole bunch of zombie groups before the founder bailed.
