How to deal with toxic players?

How do you guys deal with rude players without completely turning off the chat? The past few days, I've ran into lots of mean players in game and it's really killing my desire to play. I would prefer to keep chat on because I really do enjoy talking to the nice part of the community (it might be my favorite part of chess!)

I have no idea. Hopefully someone else does.

My policy is to not respond.  Instead I immediately block them.

This is certainly a good response; these toxic players only get reinforcement when you try to fire back in the same manner that they use to attack.

Alternatively, you could just challenge you're chess.com friends to games (they certainly wouldn't act toxic with you).

All of this looks good. My policy is- Delete and Block if necessary. So far I have not needed to block any one. I just never have any thing elce to do with them. I have been here for about six years. I've got quite a few people that I have been keeping a game going for years you find the good people and stay with them. I do give new people a chance but they only get one.

If you watch you'll see those rude people end up getting kicked out of Chess.com that always makes me feel a bit better (is that wrong of me lol )

If you don't like their words, don't reply and block them.  Words can only hurt you if you let them.

Playing on a computer, look for a way to bring a window in front while still keeping the game active behind. Then use the front window to cover the chat so it does not distract you while playing. :-)

I start all the games with chat on but if i see that a person is rude i at once switch  the chat off and block the person after finishing the game.
A sure way is also to play with friends - you can be sure that they will never write insulting things.

If someone is just rude, mute and block them. If someone is harassing you, report them to chess.com. They will ban them.

Why don't you close the door of re-action yourself? Just ignore those words @FallenSky - just finish the game mindfully and after the game is finished, you just block the disturbing fellow and be sure, in future you don't need to play against them except a tournament.

Hello, what do you call "a toxic player", Don't actually know what it is...

Squidward18Q

Toxic generally means they've gone without a shower for the past few days.

Just checked, only 4 blocked players over about 3k games, but I have a pretty high peckerwood tolerance. Heck I think that’s better than OTB.

RussBell

Is it not possible to disable chat while playing?  If not, Chess.com needs to fix that ASAP!

doublebruce

Just relax and let it all roll

krazykat1975

I think you can disable the chat at any point in the game, I've done it before. Comes in handy with players with low peckerwood tolerance.

manekapa

You don’t have to limit yourself to playing with friends. In the live chess settings, you can enable the chat for friends only.

Also, the focus mode hides the chat window for live games.
