I use the King's Indian Attack all the time (With both sides). I used to play the fried liver with white, and I knew how to stop myself from getting fried.
Just keep in mind openings are alot less about what "you play" and alot more about what your opponent plays... the important part of openings is understanding opponent's strategies, maybe even personality through openings... there can also be surprises..
but I'd say 600~1200 : experiment and have fun
1200 ~ 2000 : stick to what you know, develop other aspects of your game...
2000 + add 1.d4 if you play 1.e4 (my plan)...

is this a good opening?
