Chess "socializing" is not normal socializing because it's usually a bunch of comical trash talk over blitz. Chess should be a lighthearted avocation and is NOT worthy of study, especially in the young who have much more important things to study.

However, unlike lower rated players, this behavior gets rationalized by references to a players "competitive nature, emotionalism, or drive" not that they are just entitled and unable to self-regulate. All areas of human activity exhibits this, not just chess.
