It's a rather narcissistic activity which is anathema to socializing or being with family. It's all about rating points. Don't raise your kids to be chess players. Encourage them in math, science, foreign languages, or musical instruments. Chess is not worth obsessing about or studying. Young people ... play if you enjoy it but do NOT take it seriously at all.

Love the game but
Yeah, it sure sounds like you love the game. Oh wait.
Another interesting question: how can "an old man" be so dead wrong about everything? Chess is "anathema to socializing"? Is this a joke?
No joke, dude!!! If you've ever hung around the chess community in your area how many had normal social lives, marriage and children, or even friends of the opposite s*x? Chess "socializing" is not normal socializing because it's usually a bunch of comical trash talk over blitz. Chess should be a lighthearted avocation and is NOT worthy of study, especially in the young who have much more important things to study.
life is chess, who gives a d*mn about "family?"
Well would you look at this i.e., a master who boldly says a very wrong thing thinking that it's right BECAUSE he's a master.
your arguments are trash, and you can't take a joke.
Chess is a beautiful game with so many strategies as far as the people playing it everyone is different that's the best part of it
