FM/WFM, CM/WCM only require a rating, not a norm (well direct titles for certain events add a few opportunities to reduce the rating requirements by 200 but are not as readily available in strong chess countries - they are an alternative in weak chess countries where there aren't as many opportunities to otherwise get a rating high enough)

IM/WIM. GM/WGM require norms in addition to a rating requirement (direct titles replace the norms and reduce the rating requirements by 200)
