There are a few strange people out there. I don't think you were rude. It depends on the time control. There's nothing wrong with trying to be friendly.

Hello dear readers;
What do you think about the in-game chat? What is the proper way to make small-talk? Yesterday I was playing with a fellow who seemed to be a tad too extroverted. At first he seemed like a geniunely nice person, then he began to annoy me, probably without even realising. Here is he conversation:
A: Hi
Me:Hi, good luck!
A: Thanks
A: Where are you from?
I don't know why he asked this even though my flag is not 'Global'.
Me: Turkey
A: good
A: Male?
A: Are you a man or a woman?
I just wanted to play, not to talk with this person. Nothing personal or regarding his nationality, though.
Me: I don't feel like this question needs to be answered.
Me: Nothing personal, but I don't want to give information about myself over the internet.
This was not the truth, but I did not want to upset him so I made this excuse.
A: nice
A has left the chat.
A has joined the chat.
A: I am man named ***** from *****
A: living in ***
Me: Nice
A: And you?
I already told him I don't want to give info.
A has left the chat.
5 minutes later -game abondoned.
Looking back to the conversation I felt like I was a little bit rude but I clearly stated that I didn't want to share information but he still kept asking. So what do you think? Is it OK to ask for name, gender etc.?
Also, most of the time when I wish good luck or say things such as 'Great game.' 'Did not see that coming!' after the game ends people don't respond and just leave the chat. Do I go too far saying these things?
