In The Doldrums -- Again ?

Sort:
cabadenwurt

We have had a thread or two in recent times that have stated we are going thru a bit of a quiet time in the forums here. I do agree with that and over the years I've noticed that the doldrums do come by from time to time so the question is why does this happen ? Part of the reason is just the passage of time as some long-term members leave this site. However there are also new members joining so that should balance things out somewhat. Does this mean that a lot of the newer members are " lazybums " perhaps ? ( just reading stuff here and not posting or starting up some new threads ? ).

However another possibility might be some shyness on the part of a few of the new member to this site. I remember that back when I posted my first post here someone else posted a negative comment right away and I got a bit nervous. Also when I started my first thread here nobody posted anything there for the first several days ( now however they can't get me to shutup and I keep starting new thread too  lol ).

Every time something fun comes along it gets deleted or locked.

All the best with this cab. Can't say I've come across shrinking violets on this site. Loads of lunatics though.

--- Thanks for the posts.

Kaynight: Well the shrinking violets would be staying away from posting ? ( as I mentioned way back when I got heck after leaving my first post here ). As for the lunatics well I guess that they will be with us forever ( like death and taxes  lol ).

--- Well okay things are a bit more under control now but then again perhaps people were having too much fun for a while back a couple of years ago ( & having too much of a good thing can be bad for you  lol ).

Well I notice that today we have had to start on a 3rd page to be able to list all of the titles for the Hot Topics. It's been a while since a 3rd page was needed so perhaps things are looking up again in the forums.

I agree, however, there is an enormous and very sane section of the chess.com community who never set foot near the forums. For obvious reasons.

Thanks for the post Isayoldboy. Another good point, I had not thought about those folks.

Should I say we are not out of the woods yet ( or out of the doldrums ? ). Were I a pirate I might say " We be be-calmed matie, yes indeed of all the evil luck --- Be-calmed !"

We need to set up threads like "The Sting". 1st we go phishing. Then we find a pidgeon, set up our mark, and confirm with Erik if the game is onUndecided

I have been looking thru the list of threads that I have started at this site and a question came to me. Perhaps it is old cabby who is in the doldrums and not the forums here ? A couple of my older threads made it past the 1,000 post mark but for some reason I can't seem to get any interesting new threads going ( oh no, is it the dreaded writer's block ? ).

--- Good question DrSpudnik. I have noticed that many of the long term members here do tend to fade away over time. Reminds one of the funny old question: " Where does the light go when it goes out ? " ( or where do the older members go when they fade-out ? ).

Thanks for the new posts.

The other day we had nearly 3 full pages of " Hot Topics ", today it is just barely 1 and 1/2, are we slowing down on the posting, yet again.
