Is abandoning a lost game rude?

It shows poor sportsmanship.
It isn't.
Make up your mind. Is it rude or isn't it?

Players who abandon a lost game? Well, this is the internet, and every weirdo and nut and sociopath on planet earth is here. When faced with a lost game the decent thing to do is resign. I will be decent even when others are not.

Someone once punished me by waiting out an entire 30 minute game because I had found a way to get out of a loss by sending my queen up an open file and giving checks.
He let the damn clock run down for half a freaking hour because he was mad at me for being difficult prey.
Alas I only got a draw. Couldn't quite find a way to get a battery going. Used the checks to buy time but ended up drawing by 3fold repetition. Sigh.

Happened again this morning. I got lucky and my opponent was going to lose their Queen at next move and after deliberating for a few seconds, they suddenly disconnected.
I don't care that much that an opponent disconnects vs resigns because those are tantamount to the same thing; what I abhor is that I'm the one who has the better board and yet I have to sit and wait for the timer to count down while a petulant opponent gets to go on and do something else. That's the part that I think is poor sportsmanship.

If your opponent disconnected, you obviously don't have to wait his clock to run to 0. If he doesn't reconnect quickly, the game is over and you win.
After the game you should report the opponent (for "stalling") if you think that the disconnect was intentional. Writing to the forum achieves nothing.

I've encountered several players who, when it becomes clear that they're going to lose, just disconnect. That forces us to wait the 30 seconds until the system registers the game as abandoned. I personally find that disrespectful as it forces the victor to wait while the other player gets to move on and do something else.
Am I wrong? I'm still kind of new to this community and to playing against others.
when i played 15|10 i would encounter people who would play the first 10-20 moves, then would sit there for the last 13 minutes without disconnecting just to waste my time and annoy me. i hate how chess.com allows this and something should be done about it.

Can't they reconnect before the "abandonment clock" runs out and move. I've seen this happen before.
Otherwise, thanks for the advice...
If anyone abandons a game just report and once enough reports are sent chess.com will close down their account, then we will have less of this incidents

Wow so you say you have to wait 10 secs before you win!?
How horrific!!!
It's not just rude it's a disgrace.
(I hope my sarcasm can be felt)
You stall or abandon about a quarter of your rapid games, which are mainly 15 minute games. In a recent example, you stalled out a losing position with 3:23 on your clock.

I've encountered this sort of thing a few times - abandoning games that are lost is simply not respectful whether its seconds or minutes of your opponent's time wasted. I've seen players run out their clock when in a losing position and then spring to life with seconds remaining. In that case, I suppose that they're hoping that the winning player tires of the wait and disconnects.

I know games sometimes get disconnected, it's happened to me. But it doesn't happen often. Automatic thumbs down every time from now on. It's become endemic, and I'm sick of it.

TBH, I'm not encountering this as much as I used to. Maybe it's a streaky thing but I don't think this has happened to me in my last 100 games.

I play a lot of 3, and 3+2 games so maybe that's the reason.
