It's because we are all getting stronger. It's obvious with thousands taking lessons & doing puzzles on here people will be getting stronger. Good isn't it!.... An even greater challenge

Nope, I'm getting stronger. It's not just a nasty delusion people have wrote to me & told me that I'm starting to worry them. the more puzzles I do the more scared they get, they said..... When I joined about two years ago, there were about 10M Rapid players, now more than 16M. On the assumption the large majority of the new 6M are beginners, the average ranking would be lower, but skill level at any ranking would be constant. There are now an enormous number of players ranked 600-750. That pool will produce 2000 players, in time, but for now there seems to be a surge of interest, which is great. Look for Monday Night Chess on CBS soon!

I'm still a beginner. Never got that good. But I know EXACTLY what you mean. I used to THRASH people rated 750 ( on my other account ) in 2022. Now, it seems newcomers make few to no blunders, know what they are doing and play really well. In other words to my eyes an 890 player in 2020 plays how a 700 player plays like today.

I got stuck at 800 for a long time and I find it now way easier to beat 1000+ opponents. I don't think I had an epiphany since my 800 rating.
All that to highlight that I share the feeling that 800 elo players are either more difficult to play because unpredictable or there are many of predatory accounts (higher rated players bullying beginners) or a lot of cheaters at this level.
