It's ok to switch to v3!

I am discovering that V3 is pretty awesome!!

Well right off I love that I can immediately view my daily games. This way I don't get caught up in chat and fall into vacation time or time out. This is especially good for those that do not have vacation time left or for non premium members.

I love the way the page is organized and I especially like the way there seems to be no lag. Especially when playing bullet.

I also love that there is so much more on the left side of the page that allows me to click less to get to where I need to go.

I am  Super Admininistrator and love the way the settings are designed for clear and easier access. I did notice  though that there were some subtle changes that made some things that were sensitive a bit harder to find and this is a huge plus  for administrator and team saftey for things like disabling a team for example. Awesome!!

I absolutely LOVE that chess news and articles are always right there for me to enjoy. Something that was brought to the forefront on v3 and I was missing that on V2. It was there but too many clicks away and so because now in v3 it is readily available, I am so much more up to speed with current events and thus have been recently inspired to step up my game again.

I am still using the top menu because I have not yet fully discovered all of the cool little treasures that v3  has to offer us but I am switching back and forth between Top Menu and side menu and seem to be enjoying myself even though I don't want to and kinda wanna hold on to v2. But  I feel very strongly that it's definitely time to park the Camaro Super Sport ( v2) and Drive the Ferrari ( V3) .

I am sure that each day I am gonna fall in love with the features in v3 more and as I discover the ease and functionality of it's layout  I will likely feel a tad embarrased as to why I had not discovered this earlier.

I am enjoying the new analysis feature in real time/ Talking about game explorer function that shows your games played percentages before you make your move and the analysis feature that analyzes your game in just right afte your live play while still on screen

Live game play in 960 random chess is just badd @SS !! I could go on. But I'll leave some of the discovering these gems to you.

I am embracing V3 happily!

Time to park the Camaro Super Sport boys and girls and drive the Ferrari!

This was originally a link advocating to keep v2.

Following a quick examination of v3 today (August 2016) I decided to change the title of this forum.

It was easy and simple to change - and even the link has changed! (this last part wouldn't happen in v2!)

I'm quitting the "forever V2" group... :-)

p.s. one little thing I'm still missing is a button allowing me to access my own forums directly - i.e., those forums, or that content, that I have created myself. This was simple in v2...

Great Forum post. I'm glad to see you gave it a chance and with a open mind completely changed your opinion on V3. I was impressed with your detailed Report on V3 after getting to know it.

If everybody would go into V3 with an open mind and get to know V3 you would find it so much better then V2 already. Like anything change is hard and no difference here and with change comes a learning curve.

I understand all you V2 hold backs but your just going to make it harder for you when V2 leaves and it will leave. There is no way to save it outdated platform with no updates or security updates. Right now doing anything in V2 for the programers is the Computer equivalent to making changes with Duck Tape and Baling Wire.

I would strongly suggest you go into V3 now and spend sometime with it even if in small doses. You don't have to tell anybody but you will be thankful when the time comes. Still no set date but I would not expect V2 to last alot longer.

They are still working full time on features and bugs. The more members that do try it and use the bug reporting tool (Little Bug Icon) at top of all pages will help get the issues that are bothering you the most to Erik and the Programmers. The more reports that are received about certain features the more likely it can be addressed.

I have been on the Beta Testing group for almost 2 yrs now and the current V3 version is like night and day from what it was. They have make so many little improvements many do not even realize and some huge improvements. Even after V2 leaves they will continue to improve and make changes. V2 didn't start out like it is now it took a lot of time and work to get where it is. Erik and the Programing team have done a great job completely redoing the Core Functions & User Interface happy.png   Cheers and I hope everybody tries and enjoys V3

BTW If anybody while trying out V3 feels lost and has questions feel free to Message me and I will walk you though it.

V3 is better no doubt, but there are still too many bugs and things to be fixed. And also is much slower. Apart from that, it is clearly better. Other thing I don't like is when you go to tournaments, they are shorted kind of strange, and it is not so easy to identify the format fast. Format, players, etc, are not in columns so your eye can easily see what you are looking for.

Does anyone have a super-slowness problem when typing messages on v3?

Graf_Nachthafen

In the end, the numbers will tell.

Will everyone make the switch, or will chess.com lose members to their competitors ?

Try clearing cache and all that stuff.

I do. I can finish typing a full sentece and it still doesn't show in the screen. Also you can feel (with the mouse) how the page is frozen while it is "loading" the letters. Really annoying, that is one of the things I was talking about.

Not with direct internet landline. But when I log in with wi fi , if the wi fi signal is weak then there is some lag. So I can deduce that the problem is NOT with V3 but rather the internet speed and connection.   Also my computer tends to be allot faster than my phone.

I have a direct internet land line.  Still, its painfully slow.  Erik is working on it and he said it is a new problem.  Message him if you are having the problem to let him know others are having the problem.

I do, and someone else told me they were having that problem too (via a message!).  A temporary fix is to type somewhere else, like a text editor, then copy and paste

I had that exact problem a couple months ago. I sent in a ticket and they fixed it on my end. I don't have that issue anymore.  Perhaps you should submint a ticket too.

NightKingx

@batgirl, did they fix it only for you? I don't understand why wouldn't they have done it for everyone if they actually have a way to fix that. I thought it wasn't fixed because they haven't worked on that yet. And I am guessing they didn't give you any instructions to follow to have it fixed because in that case you would have shared those with us. I use mainly V2 now, so I am not really in any kind of hurry, I hope they fix it soon (for everyone), if not, or when they force us to swith, I will sumbit a ticket. Thanks for the suggestion ;)

batgirl

No, I didn't have to do anything but complain. The worker bees did the rest.  I have no idea why the fix worked for me but not for everyone, unless there are other bugs and they quit looking for them when my problem was resolved.  The point is, of course, they have to know you have a problem before they'll try fixing it and once they do know, they will try -or htat's been my experience at least.  Good luck.

The speed issue has been known for a long time. Erik posted long ago that V3 is still in Beta even though it has been fully released to every member. When V3 gets to the point it can be finalized it will be optimized and then Erik said speed will be no problem to most members.  I say most member as it is true V3 loads more info and higher resolution graphics which most everybody knows makes for larger graphic / picture files.

I have no problems at all with speed but I have a very high speed internet connection. Called Bonded pair DSL running at a true 32 mb. Even after it has been optimized using the worse case scenario a dial up connection you could just sit outside and watch the grass grow while the home page is loaded. So many slowness issues come from the user's internet speed. Many Internet Providers give exaggerated Speed levels knowing many users will never reach that speed.  Sorry about that but bringing everything up to modern HD levels just no way to load less data while using the site. So for those now that are having problems even typing in text may want to do a true Speed Check on your connection. Many good testing sites my favorite is (http://www.speedtest.net/). It shows you a lot of info about your connection. I would IMO say you would need a min of 8 - 12 mb internet connection speed to not have some slowness problems. happy.png Hope that helps and jump in there giving V3 a chance being patient and trying not to get frustrated. After you learn how the differences work it is just so easy.

BTW: I know a lot of internet providers that advertise a certain internet speed but the actual connection is no way near the advertised speed. (I will not list the worst of the Internet Providers known for misadvertising or misrepresenting connection speeds) Due to liability issues). The other main problem is due to line issues and a small list of issues that can cause the internet speed to be slower then it should be. Can't go into here as far to much involved in fine tuning your internet speed. I even had to go into my Registry in Win 10 and make changes to tweak my internet settings to get the fastest connection speed.  happy.png Cheers all have fun and enjoy your time on Chess.com

batgirl

Commander_Riker,  he's not talking about a speed issue, but a certain lag that occurs when typing text.  Even typing slowly, the letters that appear are 5 or 6 letters behind.  I had this issue and submitted a ticket.  Erik got back to me and had me try different things (suspecting it was my old computer more than anything, but that turned out not to be the problem).  Finally, they must have found something because my problem disappeared.  Apparenty there are other things that cause this same problem.

xming

@ Commander_Riker:  I do not experience any problems anywhere on the internet with any graphics or loading, etc.  Just v3 typing is slooowwww.  I do have a problem with yahoo mail when trying to compose and email.  It stops me or has the same delay.  That problem is advertisements loading.  Seems something else in v3 is in the way of their word processor and is taking precedence.  Erik seemed stumped and said he will be working on it this week.  My regards to Capt. Pikard.

Martin_Stahl

I haven't seen the typing issue on the forums at all that I can recall. My first guess would be some kind of interaction between the javascript code and a client side plugin/extension in the browser.

I have read of things like ad blockers and AV add-ins causing issues in the past with different parts of the site.

Connor_Macleod1518

I don't get ads in v3. I miss them
