Lack of politeness and etiquette

Man the etiquette and sportsmanship has died here! I used to always get a "good game" statement from live chess opponents, (yes a few rude jerks), but overall great sportsmanship.  Now I hardly ever get a good game statement.

Oh well.....such is life :)

Good post!

I only say 'gg' when I feel it's worth it (my opponent and me having a good fight; he played stronger than his rating suggested etc.)

Otherwise I just close the tab ASAP.

Yes that is exactly what I mean BigDecline....If I beat an opponent 100 points or more higher than I, and do it more than once....I think a "good game" is appropriate.  Especially if I have said it to my opponent.  Anything else is just poor sportsmanship.  I even had a guy post that I was a cheater after I beat him a few games.....just sad.

maybe this will give you some idea of why people aren't saying gg anymore?

WickedGamesWePlay

It is really a function of a brain dead customer service support group at Chess.com.  I have complained for years as a Diamond member, but they just can't pull their heads out of their arse and sincerly could give two craps about this.  The point is subtle and tedious, but here it is:

When a live game concludes they grab control of your cursor even if it is in a chat and your typing they grab it back from you and shove it in a pop up box to start a new game. Which is what they want you to do, irregardless of whether you are conversing with your opponent about the game or trying to rechallenge him to another.  At that point the time it takes to get your little friggin' cursor back in the chat box and retype, your opponent has moved on just by hitting "enter" inadvertantly or intentionally while the pop up window is live.  It is conversation interruptus to the dwindling population like me and you who value interactional courtesy and possibly generating friendships over chess.  Chess.com is run by the new generations, they have the "well what's in it for me type mentality" and and they genuinely suck!  I rescinded my membership, I am no longer a paying member, if they can ignore and shuffle their feet each time I approach them on this contributioning issue, then I will just stay in it for free chess, I'll go to you YouTube for instructional videos, who needs to pay a hundred bucks a year for a bunch of losers.
