What if they start arguing over chess? Whose move is it? Did you touch that Pawn? Where's my Knight? I had a Knight before I got up to go to the bathroom!

Hello everyone,
I'm wondering if it's a good idea to learn chess to my parents ...
I want, because, I want to help my parents !
My parents currently have no hobbies ( don't think it's wierd, in some culture, it is not good seen ), they are retired, so they have lot of free time and they don't busy themselves, so they are often angry, they often argue.
I'm telling myself, maybe chess will help them, to busy themselves, have an acitivity, so they won't have time to argue for nothing. And maybe they will like chess, if they understand the rules, and start to understand how the game work...
My parents are 75 and 65, so they are old, I know they will never reach the 1000 elo, but I want they play between them, so they will have a common activity, and maybe it will help them in their couple.
