locking a thread

I started a thread in General Chess Discussion and asked, " How can you tell if someone is using a computer" and the thread was locked after three posts one of which said"You can't. Just report it and let the experts deal with it".

If I can't how can they?

.. and ..

Why lock the thread? Doesn't chess.com like anyone asking pertinent questions?

Discussions of cheating are not allowed in the general forums so most of that type of topic get locked.
