Moral of the story: stop playing chess

This is a new one...

Chess.com is clearly trying to tell us to slow down and take a break. So let's do that.

It took me twice as long as it should have to create this thread. You might be thinking, hey, NK is making things worse with yet another post to slow the site down. But no.

I'm here to tell you to stop using chess.com for a little bit. Stop making new clubs, stop posting troll forums. This site is chock full of people trolling. For example, the new club to boycott the gif of Danny stroking wires, you guys aren't helping by just making more activity for the system to write.

This is a chess site, so keep it one.

I believe of all trolls were erased the site would be fine again. Nobody can do chess things anymore because of the influx. It's not only trolls, chess games have excelled this month.

But slow down y'all!

I see your point

I have been noticing a lot more trolly activity on chess.com then there used to be when I first joined, which was back in like 2019

It was a whole lot more to the point of chess back then, but now, with covid and all that other stuff going viral, chess.com became less true to its name

I'm not active enough on here for this to apply to me. XD

Ok, a few things, but I'll mention the club first since you mentioned it. (we're famous!) We aren't protesting the image per se, we're protesting the frequency of server errors, and do you think a club with less than 100 members whose main contribution is the "If I see Danny fixing something one more time..." message is causing any slowdown compared to the hundreds of thousands if not millions of new people joining the site in the past few weeks? Also putting us as an example of a troll club seems like an oversimplification, some members troll but it's not the main purpose of the club, and all trolling we do is usually for some purpose or another, most likely to spread the message in a humorous way, and that is minimal. So that was a bad example. Also, about this: "Chess.com is clearly trying to tell us to slow down and take a break. So let's do that." No, just no. Chess.com is a chess site, as you so helpfully pointed out later, and they are run on profits, not "morals of the story." So they don't get to ignore their problems and say that we need to take a break, and that's not what they're doing. They're just overwhelmed, but the growth has been coming for weeks, and they are handling it poorly. So we have every right to be upset, even if you see this as a break opportunity. (which I get, and am fine with) "I'm here to tell you to stop using chess.com for a little bit." You're not my parent😑. Suggest it sure, it's a decent suggestion, but the way you present it seems bossy and won't be received well. "I believe if all trolls were erased the site would be fine again. Nobody can do chess things anymore because of the influx." Trolls have been here since the Cambrian Explosion, and I don't think they're going away since cc likes to be lenient to avoid false mutes and bans. (Even though they make stupid mistakes like auto-muting @ant) No, the problem isn't trolls; it's the influz of new people that has been increasing for weeks if not months now and is exploding now. You'll also notice that servor error used to be infrequent, but then they happened like every other day, and happen at any time now, that also matches cc's growth, which I tbf, should have realized earlier, but they should have surely noticed, and I bet they have. It's just that nothing substantial appears to have been done to fix the site experience and/or compensate us for this rocky week, and that's why we're upset.

Did I just write a dissertation?

lol

Honestly this thread was meant as a semi troll thread itself.

As you noticed, it made little to no sense. Good job with your dissertation though 😂

Its not just chess.com.  2 weeks ago, Southwest Airlines had a meltdown that grounded all aviation traffic during the height of the holiday season. Ticketmaster is on the hot seat in Congress for screwing up the Taylor Swift debacle. Twitter, Tic-Tok, egg prices, etc. You so called adults just have to learn that pushing wood in a board game is not the most important thing in life.  Viola Davis was snubbed for an Oscar nomination, and Tucker Carlson doesn't know weather to eat M & M's or complain about them.

Tell me more about the Cambrian Explosion. I've never heard of that opening before

Ronald, lol....

Bro you did. 😡

No problem. I wasn't going to either. 😄

Avatar of Bruvoskity

Oh, that's the problem? Climate change is affecting chess.com?

This is bad, the ducks are going to die because the kings are always fighting each other and building war machines that pollute the waters

Avatar of Bruvoskity

Dang, go faster!

Honestly, today seems like it's doing better because I haven't gotten an error yet.

And I know this little thread is not going to cause even a miniscule difference.

Avatar of ItsTimeForTim

I just got error 502 three times in a row... Here's a suggestion though: Maybe if we ALL who are club admins go and delete a bunch of old forums that are long dead in our clubs, if we ALL do this, that might help some at least temporarily? IDK

"Oh, that's the problem? Climate change is affecting chess.com"?                                                                  Well Elroch's thread IS pretty big. frustrated

True...

So if people make it a problem it'll be one. Even if it is not a problem it is now.
