So I was out getting some exercise on my bike last week and some guy at 6:00AM coming home from his Ctistmas partY with BAC = 0.18 blows through a stop sign.  He breaks my back, tears my face and nose off, breaks my skull, has me in all these nutty metal braces.  I am the ugliest person in the world in a noisy hospital with entitled nurses.  i'm on all these pain meds.  I can't see through 1 eye.  I want to put "me" on hold until I get healthy and create a new player that plays 900 level chess slowly.  Can I do that without chess.com causing me trouble?  This is not cheating - this is a different me than was here a week ago.

You have my extreme sympathies.  About 40 years ago a drunk driver put me in in intensive care with a ruptured colon.  No fun at all.  Chess.com is a little pissy about second accounts and so forth, but if I were in your shoes I'd just open a second account and play there until you feel better.  So what if they catch you, you've got way more important things to worry about.  Best of luck with your recovery and I hope you get a lawyer to sue the pants off the drunk.

I think if you were to dissapear for short while (just perhaps a couple days) and reregister, there would simply be NO way for chess.com to know of your old identity.

on the other hand, are you sure you need this kind of reset on your rating?  if its just time you want, you can always play a longer control.

if you feel like your sure to fall, you have the pychological advantage in a game IMHO.  whereas your opponent will agonize over missing a peice - you can take stuff like this in stride.

in a short while your rating is sure to reflect your skill IF you play.  that is the Exact job of a rating.

in short, IMHO you've really laid no compelling reason for wanting to reset your rating.  your prepared to lose rating anyway.    INstead those that are dishonest have the most reason to want a new identity and thats why chess.com tries to avoid making that easy.

And that's why my bicycle has been in the basement for years. Frown I dread the morons who are sober. I can't afford to meet a drunk. Get well.

Thanks guys

@badogno - It's not just this guy.  It's his damn company.  Thecompany had a Christmas party that lasted until 5 AM and then let everyone drive home.  What did they think was going to happen?  I'm going to make some money out of this but I have money so I don't care.  I really want to just leave my chess identity alone bevause while I am not a great player, I was a decent one and may not be again.

I'd be all over making some deal with chess.com where they don't hassle me and I donate some decent percentage of my lawsuit to some kid's chess educational foundation...

@the great patzer - I didn;t really understand any of that but it's hard to believe I have a psychological advantage over anyone in any area right now.  I'm an emotional basket case.  I meet new nurses who are shocked at how ugly I look.  Seeing a nurse taken aback and gasp is really painful.

@op, you have a pychological advantage over people in online chess bc you don't care if you lose.  that is an advantage (believe it or not)...

regarding your physical appearance no one can "see" you online.

I feel bad that you have emotional problems, I can't exactly undertand what you are going through- but I hope that playing chess is a pleasant distraction and helps you think of about something different.

about A "new Name"

Register as a New user; make up a new username and use another email. You CAN do that but chess.com would prefer you remain  'hisboyelroy'...

if you don't understand why, lets just say people aren't honest and chess.com struggles with that.
