It's called a stalemate. A stalmate is when the king can't move but it's bot in check, and that will result to a draw. Checkmate is when the king can't move but it's in check.
Not Checkmate?
Considered the winner, or nobody wins?
Unless you are playing Xiangqi (Chinese Chess), in which stalemate is a win for the stalemating player and a loss for the stalemated player.
I took all of his pieces except the king. I had queen and king.
His king was on A7, my queen was on C6.
I moved my king from D6 to C7. There was no where else for him to go, and it called it a draw or something and I lost/didn’t win.
Quite frustrating because I’ve played like 20 games against him to get that far.
It won’t let me upload my screen shot for some reason, so sorry for the lack of visuals.
This is precisely why the games become a draw. You need to give the opposing king a small room to run about to avoid stalemate.

Stalemate. The king isn't in check, while it has nowhere to go, and the opponent is then unable to move.
