Official Statement on "Live" vs "Play"

It takes guts to admit when you're wrong so well done Erik.
so, one out of a hundred ain't so bad?

To be honest, you can't really expect him to go around apologizing for every bug/problem the site has.
Clarifying the need major changes like these is appreciated. Afterall, this change affects the gameplay and in turn majority of the site's users.

abhinav, i've been here over ten years. longer than many staff members and every mod.
erik used to start topics asking what they could do to make the site better. those days are long gone. i have started many topics asking about site fails. one was titled, erik, we are frustrated. he posted that there were some good issues put forth.
then the topic was locked.
there is an underlying issue staff refuses to face. while they promote new *features*, they don't address functionality issues.
for more clarification, the bug issues can be seen in many of my topics. note how staff members left the building. at one point, david states he will not respond to queries about site functionality. so, this topic that is a mea culpa seems lame to me. the responses from others kissing a$$ are also lame.
fix the existing bugs before using resources to provide/change how we play. one issue of being denied the ability to play is almost three years old. not a single staff member has addressed it.

Not every mod
Also, @erik is the CEO. When the site was smaller he could be on the forums more often. He still posts occasionally, like here, but most staff have other things that require their efforts as well, so posting in the forums isn't common.
Regarding bugs, those are being worked on all the time. Some are higher priority than others and some are really low priority. The site shouldn't stop improving and can still do bug fixes while enhancing existing things or adding new features.

Al, I know where you're coming from - and I kind of agree with you, but the reality is the site has grown exponentially & I presume @Erik must have a myriad of things on his hands now.
Maybe a staff member could be entrusted with the responsibility to take feedback from the community, and I guess the beta club serves that purpose currently... But then everyone's not a part of it and it makes you prone to bugs.
With the addition of features like emoji reactions and now these NFTs, I think it's pretty clear
what's on their mind.
P.S - I used to follow your "erik, we are frustrated" thread; was a bit perplexed to see it locked. They said it was because it went off-topic, but then there are a zillion larger threads in the community section that have gone off the track, all still unlocked.

Not every mod.
/ I've been here since 2007 and Martin Stahl has been here since 2009.

I have to believe it's not as profitable to fix every bug before implementing new features.
Ok, so some titled players are denied a game in 1 out of 1000 attempts. If they fix that even the titled players may not notice. But cooking up things like puzzlerush, pogchamps, and the chess.com world championship gets a lot of attention from a lot of people.
I don't know why they can't just say this to you. "Yeah, it sucks, but we'll get to it when we get to it. And that means maybe never. Have a nice day." Doesn't seem so hard, but I guess it's seen as better PR to ignore you than chat like this.

You can always report bugs or add suggestions in the bottom left of the site, they are all looked at.
Additionally, the beta forum is used to test new features for which we actively want user feedback.
If you have any other serious issues even after using the bug report/suggestion feature, you can always email support@chess.com.

good morning
yesterday I was playing, chess then what happens, someone uses a program to slow down the clock, I don't know, when I have over two minutes left, and he has no pieces left of any significance, and 32 seconds on the clock, but I run out of time, that just doesn't ring right.
Is there anyone on this platform that doesn't cheat? I mean I don't have to. Damn shame

No one uses anything to slow your clock. They would have to hack the site server to impact anything on your side and if they had that access they wouldn't be using it to do that.
You most likely had connection issues.

hello to whom it may concern,
people are under the impression you have to hack the whole system to slow the clock, on the site that's not true, and in fact it's been done, time and time again, add time, or stop it completely, you can even speed up your opponents clock. It's really not that hard to do. And if you're under the impression that it is then you don't know, your algorithm, the damn shame, because I can see the program they used, it mimics being disconnected from the site,
damn disappointed KGB 225

good evening
I was given this link, because someone used a program that slowed his clock, and speeded up my clock, he had 32 seconds left, no significant pieces left on the board, I have two minutes, and I still lose, by running out of time something does not ring true. Now this link serves no purpose my cash is dumped every day there's nothing in, I have speeds over 200 , so there's nothing there, but what my opponents have is a program that mimics being disconnected then reconnected then disconnected again, that adjust the clock to their favor, and those who think that you have to hack the whole system in order to manipulate a part of it have no idea about algorithms, at least investigate what I've told you, just because you think you know doesn't mean you do. And let me point out, you have found before when I have complained people cheating and manipulating the clock, it is not unheard of, 45% of the people on this platform cheat. Unfortunately that's a fact is they can't win and they have no game.
Sincerely damn sure disappointed KGB 225

If anyone can prove there is an exploit of the clocks, they should report it to the site, with step-by-step instructions, that can be reproducible by anyone, and report it to the site. The site actually has a bug-bounty program and I would guess that would be something that would count for it
https://www.chess.com/news/view/chess-com-bug-bounty-policy
I very confident that such an exploit does not exist. Disconnecting from the site on one end does not impact the opponent's clock and the site only allows a certain amount of lag compensation, so doing that only impact the member disconnecting, not their opponent.
https://support.chess.com/article/423-why-did-the-clock-times-suddenly-change-the-clocks-seem-broken
Again, what you are seeing is lag and or disconnects. The server process is also the only official clock, so no matter what happens client side, only the server holds that official clock and updates the clients when each move is transmitted.

good morning
to whom it may concern,
if it is true which you state that your site holds control of the clock explain, 32 seconds left, I have two minutes left, my opponent moves, disconnects his self, reconnects, I have a minute and 30 seconds left, my opponent has 30 seconds left, I moved I have a minute and 20 seconds, my opponent disconnects, reconnects still has 30 seconds and moves, I move I have a minute left, my opponent clock is at 30 seconds, he moves it's at 29 seconds and disconnects, I am now at 57 seconds, he reconnects and moves again he said 27 seconds, I move I have 40 seconds, my opponent disconnects reconnects moves 26 seconds is left on his clock, I move I have 35 seconds left on my clock, re-connects again and has 25 seconds left, I move I have 27 seconds left, again reconnects, he has 23 seconds left, I move I have 18 seconds left, but opponent reconnects as 20 seconds left and moves disconnects again, I have 10 seconds left and I move, my opponent moves is 18 seconds, I move I have five seconds, my opponent moves is 17 seconds left, I move I have 1.9 seconds left, my opponent moves is 10 seconds I'm out of time. Now understand these events started with me having to minutes and my opponent having 32 seconds. Something doesn't ring true, there was no lag, my cash is clear, my speed is over 200, through the hole game my time was ahead of his, but near the end my time disappears,
damn sure no what I saw KGB 225, you have the capability of going back through your algorithm looking at the damn game get off your butt and do it. the program they use mimics being disconnected, in effectively adjusting the lag if any,
don't send me a private email telling me you gave me back my points, you find something you posted so everyone can see, maybe it's just a glitch, either way it needs to be looked into.

I think that's just you being disconnected
There's no Spectators list in "Play" actually. So, if you play a game and want to see, who's watching it, it's not possible

Maybe worth suggesting
