I'm an Unrated Adult player from New York and would like to play in this upcoming tournament.

Unfortunately, I cannot comprehend all these abbreviations and such.

1. How much is the entry fee?

2. Do I need to pay for the USCF membership?

3. How much is prize money?

4. Is this teams?

5. What does the Orange text I highlighted mean?

Thanks a lot for helping a new player.  - BoobsGalore  Laughing

1. How much is the entry fee?

If you play in the Under 1400 section your entry fee will be $68.

If you want to play in the Open section then it will be $118.

2. Do I need to pay for the USCF membership?

Yes, if you want to play in the tournament. You can join at USCHESS.ORG BUT IF YOU JOIN AT THE SAME TIME YOU ENTER THIS TOURNAMENT THEN THE ORGANIZER WILL GIVE YOU A DISCOUNT ON YOUR MEMBERSHIP DUES: "Special 1 year USCF dues with magazine if paid with entry. Online atchessaction.com, Adult $30, Young Adult $20, Scholastic $15."

3. How much is prize money?

As an unrated player you may only be elgible for a trophy unless

you play in the open section (against the masters). Bear in mind

that will mean a higher entry fee for you. In the open section

you will be competing for

1st $1400 2nd $700 3rd $400 4th $200

If you are the best unrated in the Open section

then you will win $500.

For the rest of your questions go to: chesstour.com

or call DirectorAtChess.US, 347-201-2269

I recommend you join a chess club near you and you

will find a lot of experienced players who will be

happy to help you out with questions like this.

Thanks a lot but are you sure theres no prize money for unrated players?

It says

Unratedmay enter any section, with prize limit U2000 $900, U1700 $600, U1400 $300

Wouldn't that mean if I enter Under 1400 section and I win, I can get $300?

Aah yes, you are correct!Laughing Also, it is a good idea to practice taking chess notation with a pen/pencil and paper while playing your games online. When I first started playing tournaments I found that taking notation was a big distraction for me because I wasn't used to it.
