Policing community standards.

Community standards of chess.com are policed by folks in the community, staff, and volunteer moderators. None are omniscient and can only work within their own limitations (such as time restraints, ignorance, incompetence, or other reasons— please note that I’m not trying to be insulting nor am I complaining with these observations).

I would like to pose a hypothetical scenario and would like to hear your feedback about it. Let’s suppose an adult individual posts flirtatious messages in a forum thread with a minors— entertaining ideas of them being “kinky” and “pants-less”. That thread is locked but the individual is allowed to create another thread mentioning drug usage. Upon seeing this you report the individual again. How do you suspect and expect management of chess.com to respond to that individual and their behavior?

If a member has repeated bad behavior they'll probably be muted, as long as the content is not an extreme violation.

In general it goes

  1. Warning and post edit or locking
  2. If continued, a mute
  3. If it happens again, longer mute
  4. If it happens more, it can range from a much longer mute, total loss of posting privileges, or account closure.

I’ve got to ask, how do you know who are minors and who are adults?

Do you believe what people say on the tinterweb?

Thank you Martin.
I’m aware of your points but am especially curious about the hypothetical question I posed. Would you consider it an “extreme violation”?

Are you asking me or Martin?
(If me) There are some people that I’m sure are adults because of how long they’ve been members, others that I know personally and through other platforms (like Facebook).

I assume admin would just have to take some users at their word per their account information. But young or not, if a person violates community standards it should be addressed regardless of their age.

Why don’t you take grudge elsewhere. If you have a problem with another member then report them. No doubt you have already done this and you continue to whine because no action has been taken. Probably because they haven’t done anything wrong.

Grow up son.

Don’t worry Harbengerofapetheticjoke, I won’t tell you what to do with your misplaced grudge.

I would like the OP to explain to me, how the use of the word “ Kinky “ is bad , and does he even know the definition of the word ! 🤷‍♂️
Avatar of Woollensock2
Obviously the OP is still upset cos I’ve blocked him , how very sad !
Avatar of Gregg-Turkington
Alright stumpy, but what is your opinion on the question I posed?
Avatar of Gregg-Turkington
Shady, I’m not complaining. I just want to know other peoples opinions.

Guys look, I understand that y’all think I’m wrong. What I’d like to know is how or why. So far, none of you have been able to set your feelings aside for a moment to give an honest answer. You say that I have a grudge but here you are doing what? You have me blocked, I don’t care!

I will try to be no more with the insults.

I don’t see what’s wrong with asking what I’ve asked?
Avatar of Woollensock2
You still haven’t answered my question ! 🤷‍♂️

To woollen, the word has sexual connotations to it about a persons looks or behavior. Its bad for an adult to use it referring to the way a child looks or dresses.

And yes shady, the word can refer to something like a kinked straw or water hose, but that’s not what I’m asking about.

What about you woollen, will you answer my original question?
Avatar of TheHarbingerOfDoom
This isn’t a childrens site Joseph. Do you want to complain about the guns threads? Encouraging patriotism and violence (the two go hand in hand).

Going back to your original question. There is nothing wrong with talking about marijuana. It is completely legal in many countries. The thread about pants was not offensive.

Grow up son. We get it you don’t like woolly. So what? If he had done something wrong the staff and moderators would have done something about it.

Go elsewhere and take the rest of the woke brigade with you.

The word kinky can mean the following: Abnormal, unusual, weird, bizarre, peculiar, strange, odd, funny.
Avatar of Gregg-Turkington
That’s true Harbenger, it’s not a children’s site but there are plenty of children on it. And it dose have terms and standards even though it’s not strictly a children’s site.

I’ll keep my opinions about the guns threads on that thread. Here I’m just curious about others opinions on what I’ve asked.

I now that marijuana is legal in many places but I think drug talk is against rules.

I’m not making this about that guy that’s why I’ve been hypothetical.

Thanks for actually answering my question mudd.
