From what I know, my friend, it's actually not. My pal Bambi-Ax-Handle had some music videos cut, and as much as I comiserate with her out of kinship, I understand the staffs commitment to making the video section respectible as far as a chess website goes.
I think the misunderstanding lies wherein, as entrepreneuers proving the value of their chess website worldwide, that's of the utmost importance, while us long time members sortof forget where we are after a while and sortof want to regard this place as more of our social home where we just happen to play chess - that's my favorite thing, wherein it's sometimes more about messaging friends and creating threads and what not - dialogue and socializing.
We do have to trust in the Chess.com staff on this though, however funky that fish video is, and I like it like I said, but our administrative guys have to do what is best for this site, which is ultimately best for us all, and for now that means making sure the video section of this site is respectible from a chess players perspective.
I know it might be nice to imagine that if the cooler members were careful about the videos they submitted, the amount and the why, that it could likely be fine, but you have to imagine how easily this idea could be abused if they gave carte blanche for any dork to post whatever youtube silliness they wanted - our video section would be the mockery of the online chess world.
So yes, ADK, that video rules, but please understand the reasoning behind doing it as they do. It's not to rob fun from fantastic members, it's to make our favorite site so respectable in the online chess community as that, at some point, most internet chess players end up here eventually, and I think we true loyalists can support that.
Cheers, ADK
I recently skimmed through the chess.com videos and I found that almost ALL of it was chess-related. I was just wondering if it is OK to promote non-chess related ones on the site. For example, Oscar Fish Stane or a TV show; e.g. "Family Guy"
