Really Want Better Forum??

Please be advised; members and staff are working on that, as we speak.
I thought the staff was trying to figure out if you were on the payroll, Ronald?

Getting back to Candewbetter's suggestion, I'm going to have to feign ignorance, because I thought the game analysis, chess openings, general chess discussion, and endgame study forums were all for helping us players who have questions and are learning about chess and/or want to improve?

Your right, the sugestion; well, your home page tells me your no kid here. But your name doesn't ring a bell. I'm just saying your not a regular poster. Your timing is ironic. We,(the members), spent the last week destroying a thread with over 1000 post about THAT VERY SUBJECT. The owner of this site, (Erik), wanted ideas about better forum behavior. There is a catagory of forums called, "site suggestions". Your ideas will defenitely be seen by staff there. More staff has just come on board in the last week. I wish you well.

My two cents:
I could really care less about some of the mudslinging. Everyone has an opinion, and there's no way for everyone to agree.
However, cc does seem to care about it. So much that I see topics locked almost every day. Yet, I see few responses from staff in many help and support and suggestions topics. Take a look at the "bugs" thread. It was pinned by staff months ago, and, that was around the last time any staff member responded. Some of those topics have no input from staff.
I would think that a site's functionality would drive away more members than seeing some argue on it.

I like the idea, if it is as I understand it, of having forums with levels of moderation. The Off Topic area is a designated unmoderated area (although certain things are of course prohibited), but the remaining threads are lumped into one level of moderation which tends to be uneven no matter how hard we try for balance. Certain types of forums that attract serious chess dialoge seem to demand tighter or stricter moderation while others, such as Chess.com Community or General Chess Discussion less so.
Of course, I don't have any say in such decisions, but I can certainly bring it up as a possibility.
Thanks.

Why do we need better forums?? Well, as an Air Force veteran who is under orders by my therapist to use these forums for mental hygiene, and anger management, and because the NASCAR Bristol race was rained out Sunday, let me tell you about 9 major crimes that accured in those forums this weekend. We had a cage fight, a bank robbery, a lawsuit, a 25 car pile-up, a fire, a drive-by shooting, a mental breakdown, a vanishing air plane, and a suicide. The cage fight was in the live chess forum; "Leechers Of Chess.com", page 7, post 124-132. The bank robbery was in site feedback + suggestions; " Regarding Premium Membership", post 1 + 6. The lawsuit was in Help & Support; " Your Contact Form Is Not Working", page 2, post 23 + 25. The drive-by shooting was in off-topic, because well, frankly, I've never heard of an internet drive-by shooting. The Thread was "-----" by chess_windows, post 15. And the victim's identity was confirmed by the mods through dental X-rays. The insane mental breakdown was in general chess discussion, post 11, in the thread, "How Do I Make Chess A Serious Part Of My Life". The Forest fire was handeled miraculouly by Kansha, who single-handedly saved the entire site from burning down, in site feedback + suggestions, "Live Chess Server Issues", when the server went down. Give that woman an axe, a fire-hose, and an oxegen tank, and she can take over the world. The Fires led to the 25 car pile-up, in "Getting Disconnected". This leaves me to the last 2 crimes. WHERE'S THAT DAM PLANE--flight 370?? Althought it hasn't been proven that chess.com had anything to do with the disappearance. In conclusion, may I suggest we put up a large sign saying, "HARD HAT REQUIRED, when entering the forums. And this leeds to my last crime. SUICIDE; MINE because you people are driving me crazy! P.S. There's donuts in the conference room. Don't tell mom. Moving on.
Pardon me for trying to beat a now dead horse, but somewhere along the way I had a thought on the subject.
I gave up reading the previous thread because it had deteriorated into a not unusual condition where people who strangely considered themselves humorous and clever wanted to use it to show off. So perhaps someone else suggested what I am going to say and I didn't see it.
Anyhow, my suggestion is not revolutionary but it might be of some value to some of us. I would like to see the creation of a new catergory for threads limited to serious discussions of how to improve one's playing skills. I could certainly use it, considering my lack of skills. I believe there are members who would enjoy a forum that would allow them to help us less chess knowlegeable than they. I would certainly appriciate its creation.
I know that such threads do arise occasionally, but if we had one category dedicated to the subject it would certainly get the attention of a number of us.
It would probably benefit from occasional review and even editing (deletion?) of postings that contained the jokester commentary. There are many other categories to show off in, so I don't think my suggestion would be a significant blow to those opposed to it.
