Ahh... I've been a bit late with the updates, I see. But not to worry - here they are: Since my last update, we've seen a win each for both sides. The games are:
Board 5: Daybreak 1-0 Newengland7
A bishop sac by Daybreak wrecks Newengland's position, and eventually there isn't much the latter can do to prevent his opponent's pieces from marching toward his king!

Board 7: Esir_1 0-1 The_Helloer
Helloer makes it a clean sweep against his opponent, by winning a game that in its opening stages looked pretty bad for him. Esir was up 2 pawns at one point, but after a knight sac that did not work out, his position slowly deteriorated until he was unable to withstand Helloer's powerful attack on his king. A very nice comeback win by Helloer to keep the Scholars in the lead!

Match score: Scholars 6 - Intellectuals 5
A BIG result just in for the Scholars! As some will remember, the Scholars are hugely outrated on the top boards in this match... so it certainly came as a surprise to see that Aravinds_II has just beaten YankeWang on Board 3 in just 17 moves, with black! Check out the game:

Yes!!! At least I have a souvenir of the probably-greatest-team-match on Chess.com!
Now, how to avoid losing in my second game...
Alright, a few updates on the match:
On Board 10, Bilbo21 has timed out in both of his games against VladimirHerceg91, meaning that the captain of the Intellectuals gets to take home the full 2 points for his team!

Additionally, on Board 6 we have the first draw of this match - a 25-move draw by agreement between Ulfhednar1234 and JunyJunebug. It seems to be that in the final position white is more or less simply up a piece... but maybe I'm missing something? Take a look at the game below, and share your thoughts:

Match score: Scholars 7.5 - Intellectuals 7.5, with 2 time-outs each. Game on!
Well, I made a mouseslip trying to move my bishop to b5, and ulfy was nice enough to take a draw
Ahh... that explains it. Hooray for good sportsmanship!
Yeah, ulfy should be recognized for that. For a second I was pretty angry with myself for doing that
Do you have move confirmation turned off for correspondence? If you do you can prevent mouseslips simply by turning it back on.
I see... I mean, if you were one of those people who play hundreds of correspondence games at the same time, then I could see why you might want to turn it off. But for people with a reasonable number of games it's probably good to just have it on.
How is this possible? Sportmanship has been mentioned and the thread hasn't yet evolved into a cheesy discussion about why having fun is more important than winning!
... and shortly after drawing the "good sportsmanship" game against Ulf, Juny scores a win in their second game! This one got wild right out of the gate, but calmed down soon afterwards following a queen trade. In the remainder of the game, Juny methodically outplayed his opponent, snatching up free pawns and evertually forcing Ulf to resign. In doing so, he puts the Scholars in the lead once again, in a match that has so far been remarkably even! Check out the game below:

Match score: Scholars 8.5 - Intellectuals 7.5
My opponent made a move and went on holiday again. This time, to Tierra del Fuego, where he's doing a refresher course for a month or two.
We've had another result, ladies and gentlemen - a miraculous save by Superman0101 against VicountVonJames on Board 12! If anyone remembers the first game that finished between those two, Vicount had an early lead, but then mishandled the game, allowing Superman the chance to counterattack and ultimately win by checkmate. Well, in this game the opposite almost happened: Superman had the early lead but played poorly afterward, and eventually Vicount was up by a rook, while Superman's looked like it was in constant danger. But just as it looked completely lost for Superman, just one slip by Vicount allowed his opponent to force a perpetual, and get an improbable draw! Check out the game below:

Match score: Scholars 9 - Intellectuals 8
With the flurry of results we have seen over the past few days, there are now just 9 more games left in the match - 2 each on boards 1, 4 and 13, and 1 on boards 3, 5 and 8. In a match that has so far been incredibly tight throught, each result from here onward will be critically important!
Apologies in advance, O ye Scholars, if I lose in my second game, as I'm having trouble against Wang...
Another day, another result. On Board 8, Destroyer_Mark_1420 wins on time in a king and pawn endgame which... I can't decide if it's a dead draw or a win for his opponent, but he most certainly did not have winning chances. With the win, Mark takes his record to 2-0, and equalizes the match for the Intellectuals! With the 26-game event current tied after 18 games, everything now comes down to a best of 8 battle!
