Slowness in Tactics Trainer or Chess Mentor? I need your help!

Sort:

if you have experienced slowness or bad responsiveness in Tactics Trainer or Chess Mentor, please post here! i want to figure out what is going on. your help is much appreciated!

here is what you should post:

1. what browser you generally use

2. how frequently do you experience this slowness?

3. when you are experiencing it, have you tried logging in with another browser to see if that works?

basically, i am trying to figure out if it is a network issue, a browser issue, a code issue, or a 3rd party service issue (google analytics, etc).

please let me know!

Erik, as per my posts in the Tactics Trainer thread, I do see this fairly frequently. The symptoms are that I can go through some number of puzzles just fine but then it will suddenly grind to a halt. Sometimes refreshing the page makes it better but usually the problem reoccurs.

I exclusively use Google Chrome with a ramdisk cache.

I frequently see the last message being "waiting for ..." and it's usually a 3rd party site: google-analytics, meebo, quixel.something, something-scorecard etc

Chess.com itself can take a few seconds to respond but it does respond eventually, when I'm stuck it's almost invariably a 3rd party site.

MugglesMan

1. Always Firefox

2. Lately (last 2 weeks) I experience it least once per session (sometimes it doesn't recover and then  "AJAX" or "AJEX" error?)

3. I have not tried another browser.

P.s I used to use IE and saw the same problem (plus IE generally is no good)

Of topic Erik, but google analytics is a horrible pice of crap.  I block it from everything i use.

1. use latest Firefox version in  windows 7/64 bit

2.  the past two days, it has been worse.  I have had delays of more than 1 minute for tactics trainer to go to the next tactic or move.  As well I have timeouts with page loading.   I quit tactics trainer and reopened again one tactic loads at normal speed, but the moves take for ever, and when tactic ends it just sits there.

3. I tried Internet Explorer and it was worse than Firefox.

that is so weird!

if anyone can try using the firebug NET panel when this happens, that would be helpful. then post a screenshot?

OK, I've installed FireFox and Firebug. Any idea how I copy its output to send to you (it's too big to screenshot)

P.s b.scorecardresearch.com is the offendor I couldn't quite remember. It appears to be quite a hog!

erik

screenshot is the only way. you can email it to: chessdev+gmail, com (correct obvious email address errors ;)

Sent one to you, doing another now

update on tactics trainer.  Today everything seems to be working fine and no lag or slow response.  Smile

A few possible culprits showed up in the Firebug reports I sent to Erik last night. I'll let him explain, though. Perhaps he's fixed some already.

Using tactics trainer almost daily, I have it once in a while (no more then once a week). When it happens, it lasts until i don't bother and close the browser for that day. Using IE8 mainly.

1) Experienced it with Google Chrome, IE 8, Firefox 3.X, and with Firefox 4 Betas 7-9.

2) I experience this all the time. However, I have to say it does not bother me that much. I can usually close the window and start it up again.

3) Yes.

4*) I believe it is a server thing, or maybe my own ISP

this happens a lot to me. I just assumed it had something to with the fact I usually am using a wireless mobile broadband device and I'm not getting reception. when it does happen I usually have to close the window and start the given problem again. sometimes I have to restart the internet connection and/or the website. using IE7 windows7. I have more problems with mentor than the trainer.
