So what exactly are the rules about discussing other chess sites?

A while back everybody was saying that it's ok to talk about other chess sites, as long as you don't compare them to chess.com. And yet...

[thread's been del;eted and not just locked - too hard to clean up - David]

So did the rules change? Or is it that clear-cut rules never existed in the first place, and threads are moderated simply according to the whims of the moderators?

You may not post any offensive content on Chess.com including your username, avatar, or personal description. You may not add any offensive comments, chat, or other content. The following behavior is prohibited and can result in your being kicked or banned: cheating, using offensive/vulgar language, using toilet humor, making personal attacks, spamming or advertising competitive websites, religious or political debate, intentionally pointless/distracting posts, and discussion of illegal activities (drugs, etc)

So, by that standard, the thread I cited shouldn't have been locked.

Macer, how do you figure it SHOULDN'T have been locked.?  "Coffee & 420" was asked to not discuss other sites. He then proceeded to discuss them for the next 5 hrs.

You don't beat competition by ignoring it.

I can read. The OP of that thread created one thread mentioning [another site], in which he was highly critical of it. Take a look at the thread yourself and tell me again that he is spamming or advertising competitive websites.

Yes you need to actively bad mouth it.   Worked for Edison.

Perhaps chess.com wanted to be balanced about it.   No favorable or unfavorable comments on competition.

Ain't necessarily whims, imo. Awareness may sometimes be lacking, But they have made it pretty clear that you mention rival sites at your peroil.

So, it may be a bit of a gamble trying it, but most times you will lose.

Anyways, I would miss all you transgressors.
