spam

from the site itself.

i recently saw a topic where one asked about a black friday 'special' cc might offer. i thought, i get these offers all the time. so, i went back to my messages to see that the site has solicited me for temporary free membership 15 times so far this year.

now, i have started topics criticizing the site, allowing others to offer their critiques about any issues we would like to see solved. responses from the site have been locking those topics. stubborn me starts more, noticing that many others see problems that need to be fixed, and hoping comments do not fall on deaf ears. i think i have started at least two of these topics stating i will never pay for this site while so many issues remain.

and yet, i regularly receive messages asking me to try the site for free. which is a way to get people to pay, especially if you have to give them your credit card and the fine print states you have to write them to stop recurring charges.

i see this as spam from the site. if a club asked you to join 15 times in one year after you had written they were failing their members, you would consider it spam. right?

will the site take action and stop this spam?

Spam is like your phone ringing all the time. You're not forced to pick up but you have to check if it's something important all the same.

come back to this topic after you've 'patronized' the site for 10 years.

Think of it this way. A business, like a restaurant or something, might have a no soliciting policy. They don't want people constantly asking them for something. At the same time, that same business will constantly solicit business from potential customers. Very hypocritical. But also the owners prerogative.

They have a right to spam as much as they want and at the same time have a no spam policy. I think it's called the golden rule, which I happen to like. Those with the gold make the rules.

i think this comprison falls flat. if i receive multiple emails from a restaurant, i can unsubscribe, even if i still go there occasionally. i would also note that both your scenario and mine here does not include regular advertisements.

Fair enough, not the perfect comparison. But the principle still holds true. They make the rules. They can have a no spam policy and spam themselves all they want. The rules you have to obey do not apply to them.

and you make a fair point about them making the rules. but, like my other topics relating to functionality, cc seems to ignore many members' concerns. and, frankly, i would *think* they would listen just a little more to members like you and i because we have been here for so long.

The reason I do not play here anymore is because they did not listen to my concerns. But I respect that they do not have to listen to my concerns. They have priorities that Trump my concerns.

Sometimes in life you don't always get what you want. In this case, it really doesn't matter. What CC wants at my expense doesn't even rank in the top 100 of things that are important to me.

It reminds me of the time I went to Still Creek restaurant in Rhododendron Oregon. We had just come off Mount Hood and were driving back home and stopped by for a late lunch. We had been there before and liked both the food and atmosphere. We were cold and a little bit wet and decided to sit at a table by the fireplace because it was warm, and also the place was almost empty.

But the wait staff said we could not sit there, because it might interfere with the other customers, and it was a burden on the wait staff. I was quite surprised, because there were literally no other customers within 30 feet. Maybe 4 customers in the entire restaurant. So I told them that clearly what they wanted was much more important that what I, as a customer, wanted. I thanked them for their honesty and we left. I have never returned.

People remember how they are treated. They dont always remember what was said, they don't always remember what someone did, but they always remember how they felt. Still Creek restaurant wanted me to feel like I don't belong there. CC makes me feel much the same way.

the ads for this site have become more prevalent.

large banners every time i log in.

more popups on the app, which still sucks.

this frickin site loves to advertise how popular it is.

fine.

making me wade through useless ads selling the site everytime i log in is condescending. i've been here for about 15 years. i get that advertising feeds the hole erik needs to feed, and it seems that is what leads.

this site used to be about the game and interaction.
