I just finished reading once again my all-time favorite Bobby Fischer article.
It is truly amazing, insightful, and quite sad all at once.
The reporter William Nack decides to try to track down Fischer when he lived in Pasadena, and for over a year couldn't find him.
The article is at "sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/magazine" and is dated
1/18/08(sorry, my link button doesn't work).  I just typed in "SI Bobby Fischer"
in the Google search box and it appeared first.

PLEASE POST ONLY COMMENTS PERTAINING TO THE ARTICLE AND NOT ABOUT
YOUR LIKE OR DISLIKE OF BOBBY FISCHER!!!

The Grobe,

Thanks for putting the link to the article here.

I believe this is the same SI article that I read off the newsstand in the 80s, when all the old chess fans were wondering  where Fischer was and what he was doing, and if he ever was going to come back and challenge Karpov. Until this article, there just wasn't anything out there to give us a hint. It was as if Fischer had jumped into a hole.

When I had finished the article I was left shocked and dismayed. I didn't think the guy was ever coming back to chess.

Fischer was and always will be a racist bast*rd even though he was a genius chess player

I can't believe the author tried to spot Fischer at a library.  Very surreal.

He wasn't racist he just hated Jews.

How do you define racist... it is okay to have issue with one race but not two to qualify?  Wow.. just Wow...
