Tactics Trainer ratings compared to Online or Live Chess?

Hey folks,

How do your Tactics Trainer ratings compare to your actual play ratings (such as Online)?  For instance, my Online rating is in the 2000s, but my Tactics Trainer rating tends to float between 1800-1900.  That looks at first glance like my tactics are lagging behind... and while that may be the case in truth, there's no real basis for that comparison.  It's misleading, because the ratings are determined independently.

So I'm curious to hear how other peoples' ratings compare in this case.  Do you find your Tactics Trainer rating tends to stay somewhere around your "real" rating, or are they disparate?  Please make sure to indicate whether you're talking about Online or Live chess, because those ratings are disparate in themselves!

tt: 1700-2000

online : 1350-1500

lastwarrior2010

TT: 1698

OL: 1655

but I am faily new to this site so my ratings aren't as accurate.

remus92

well...my tt-rating is always between 2000-2200

my ol-rating is 1919 at the moment, but i have some games in a winning position,so it'll be sth around 2000 soon..

tatics trainer - 1500-1700
online - 1600-1700
live - 1400

although these numbers can be very misleading. on live i disconnect often and i also am always testing out different moves and variations that i'm trying to learn and tinker with (i.e. i'm not very good at them yet). my tatics rating has been rising lately and is for the most part catching up to my online rating.

Tactics trainer - 2136

Live 1600+ in all areas.

I might have a higher rating if I just didn't play when I was low on sleep haha.

uscfan185

Tactics Trainer: 1127

Online: 1442

Need to work on my tactics a little bit.

fagenz

I'm with uscfan185... defo need work on my tactics.

TT: 1157

OL: 1352

I find the pressure of the clock and knowing that I'll "fail" with one wrong move very inhibiting.  This is probably why there is a discrepancy between ratings.

tactics trainer: 2550

Hmm a thread I'm in. Well now it's tactics trainer: 2610, live about 1900 in all areas, and online I'm flirting with 2000.

odyson

TT: currently about 2400. When I used it constantly about 2600.

see my recent post re: tactics trainer. it seems a little higher (overall) than my regular rating. but, i play more tactics trainer...one reason your tactics trainer could be a little low is that time constraints are more severe than in regular chess.

I am consistently aroung 1500 in my online games, 1750 on Chess Mentor, and 1100 on TT on a good day. I know I would not have an ELO rating over 1700 or less than 1100. I do know that time is my adversary in the TT program. I almost always get the right answer but lose points because of time. Also, I cannot conceive, given my basic lack of talent in the first place, of ever getting so fast at responding correctly in the TT that I would ever get above 1500. So what gives here? Can someone help me understand the disparity.

Tactics: 2100

Online: 1700

Live Standard: 1600

Blitz: 1300

(USCF 1600)

(scholastic 1200)

I don't play live chess as often as online chess, which explains that. Why my tactics rating is so high compared to my online rating? I'm really not so sure. It may be that given it's a tactics trainer problem, one knows there must be a tactic. The tactics trainer helps one recognize patterns, and it may be that I can solve those tactics by simply calculating quickly. But I do feel that I see more tactics in the game the more I do these. Well, there's not necessarily a possible tactic you'll run into in every game. I think how these ratings compare really depend on the player.
