Tactics Trainer Suggestion

I suggest that Tactics Trainer have an alternate soulution feature put into it because sometimes when I do a tactic, it says my move is wrong and it shows that the correct move was checkmate on that move but with my move, it would've been checkmate the next move so what's the difference?

I contend. Right now alternate solutions situations have moves removed so that the user does not see the alternate moves situation.

OK.

You missed 2. Qb7# is checkmate --> You didn't see all the tactics in the position --> You don't deserve credit for solving the problem.

But both lead to checkmate!

It doesn't matter that both lead to checkmate. What matters is that you missed that Qb7# is checkmate. Or are you claiming that while solving the problem you saw that Qb7# was mate and decided to play a move that didn't checkmate immediately?

Yes, I saw that Qb7# was checkmate but I also saw (2.Rb7+ 2... Kc8 3.Qa8#)

So, you deliberately didn't play a move that was checkmate in 1 move. Lesson learned by you, I guess.

I didn't play either

So, um, what exactly are you complaining about?

I'm not complaining, I'm suggesting that tactics trainer should have an "alternate solution" feature built into it like Chess Mentor does.

And my response is that this feature seems unnecessary. If the solver doesn't see the mate in 1, they've missed a tactic and don't deserve credit. If they see the mate in 1 and don't play it, they're just screwy.

I see your point

chesstempo.com does the alternate move feature very well, I strongly recommend it for tactics trainer.

OK thanks

I was meaning that I strongly recommend the feature to be put in chess.com's tactics trainer, but I also strongly recommend chesstempo.com. :)

Unlimited tactics for free, and I pay to track my stats on different tactics types and to be able to create custom sets to work on specific motifs.
