You will love it here. I have not played a rude person yet and my games have almost all been rated. Some of the nicest people play here and the mean, rude players, for some reason, don't talk or post in the forums.
Thanks from Former ICC Member

welcome! glad to have you here. we hope to make improvements in the professional chess coverage this next year!

I absolutely agree. Chess.com has a wayyyy better community than ICC. In fact, I rarely ever talk to my opponents on icc, except when one of them starts insulting me.
I'm not about to cancel my subscription to icc but chess.com is great.

Event coverage on ICC basically worked via live relay of game moves by a volunteer or staffer on a board visible to all interested members could watch and comment. Often, some sponsored commentary by a titled player was also provided. Chess.com did have some coverage of the World Championship, I think. But, the interface here seems to be more of a hit the refresh key thing. The ICC has a more proprietary and interactive client that supports this kind of thing better for now. But, chess.com only keeps getting better so I am sure they will have something good soon.
I used to be an ICC member. But, I am starting my own business and money is really tight, so I dropped them and joined here. The community here is so much better. I have met great people that love chess (Psyfox, DuckTape, Damon, Vincko, etc. -- hope I got the spelling right.) People on the ICC tended to be rude and to want to lord their chess knowledge to claim some speical regard from others. I am a fairly strong player (though my rating here is higher than I deserve due to some good players being way too nice with hanging pieces!), but I had gotten to the point on ICC that I would not play rated games (hence the UnratedGuest handle.) I found people willing to play unrated games were nicer for all the obvious reasons. I like playing with all levels of players-- it is the game and the community that I enjoy. The only thing I miss is the coverage of chess events on the ICC as I am also a big professional chess fan. Still, I could not be happier to be here and I just wanted to say THANKS to chess.com and to the community that has welcomed me. I plan to join as a paying member as soon as my business is on its feet.
