The Most Disrespectful Thing In Chess

Alright, let’s talk about it. The most downright disrespectful, soul-crushing, rage-inducing thing that can happen to a chess player. No, it’s not blundering your queen. It’s not getting checkmated in four moves. It’s not even that one guy who premoves the entire game like he’s trying to speedrun your dignity out of existence.

No, my friends, it’s when your opponent—after ruthlessly dismantling your position, suffocating your king, and reducing your dreams to rubble—has the audacity to type “GGs” in the chat.

“GGs.” As in good games. Plural. As if that one game wasn’t already enough of a massacre, they’re out here acting like they did you a favor by playing multiple rounds of “Find the Worst Possible Move.” As if you’re supposed to thank them for the experience of getting folded like a cheap lawn chair.

Oof yeah 😂

You’re right. If someone loses to me and they type “gg”, they get my instant respect. If I lose and they type it, get out of here. Even worse if they want a rematch.

All of that can be solved by Disabling Chat; we're here to play chess, not talk.

I think it's when you're completely winning and they offer a draw😂 does that annoy anyone else or just me lol

Gg(s) means good game, I had fun.
It should be fun Weather you won or lose.
Saying good game is ok Weather you win or lose.

I think it's disrespectful to say GG if your opponent didn't play a good game, better not say anything

Avatar of SixInchSamurai

I report GG-players for trolling, block them and keep living

I can't disagree with you, this GG after a lost game looks very toxic, but it's not always the opponent who wants to offend you with it. In my opinion, it's still better than GG EZ, which is what pisses me off...

I think the worst is a GG after a mouseslip and when the game is still going, because losing 1 piece is not always resignable in blitz

Avatar of cafecheck
That’s a bad one too.

I keep chat off cause I hate people and I have anger issues. What's worse is I get beaten a lot.

The most disrespectful thing to me is when they do the "bong cloud opening" then proceed to try and scholars mate me.

Avatar of max_arsenal012

I’ve annoyed many people when I’m destroying them in games and I just keep typing the 🐟 emoji
I don’t really know what it means but some reason it just seams to say something kinda trollish ngl

oh yeah bro that EZ part would trigger me lol

GG before mate/resignation is disrespectful, absolutely.

But GG after a game is fine. “Good game” is just a polite thing to say, it doesn’t necessarily have to mean exactly that one’s opponent played a good game.

You’d shake hands after an OTB game, right? To me, GG after a game is sort of like a little online chess version of this.
Avatar of Mythrodark
I think GG is polite if it's the loser of the game who say it
