The new spam thread

I just submitted a ticket, I suggest more members do the same:

There are hundreds of spam messages being posted in the forums.
There are a few threads by members compaing about these, or reporting these, or offering suggestions how to deal with these.
One thread: http://www.chess.com/forum/view/help-support/admins-spam-alert-you-may-wish-to-check-this seems to be a (sometimes but not always) good place for members to post links to spam accounts, dsometimes (I suppose whe a interested staffer is on duty) they disappear pretty quickly, other times, like now, there are multiple pages of rubbish. We appreciate the efforts of staff in this thread, though it seems inapprpriate to me that ordinary members should be policing the situation.
In at least one other thread :http://www.chess.com/forum/view/general/here-come-the-darn-spam-threads-again-whatcha-gonna-do-chesscom the only response from staff was a snotty comment that complaing about spam is also spam.
We need:
1) someone in authority to comment. Look through member's suggestions, and implement them, or tell us why they can't be implemented.
2)Multiple people have requested that the topic for reporting be pinned, it becomes hard to find during the spam floods.
3) chess.com to realise that this is a real issue for some members, it totally detracts from the value of the site.

If chess.com fveels that it is unnecessary to fix this problem, please let us know. I do not need a private reply to this complaint, the reply should be in the public forums, for everybody to see. With daily (at least) updates, by somebody who is authorised to make comments and decisions.

Alas, they're all gone.

Did you know there actually only about fifty people using the site? The rest are just sockpuppets.

Crazychessplaya

See, I told ya. Ten hours later, and no comments besides mine.

AlCzervik

All my sockpuppets were sleeping.

Crazychessplaya

I know you're one of the fifty, Al.

+1

There seems to be more spam and ads here than at the other "big" site I use, IMDb.  IMDb is the #30 site in the USA, compared to #900 for Chess.com.  The forums there are more lively and are much more liberally moderated than here.

Thank you for writing in,

I know that you said a private reply was unnecessary, but just in case it can help, I thought I’d write you. I appreciate you giving me the opportunity to bridge the information gap here. Your point 3 lets me know just how wide this gap is. Several staff members have been working (in many cases with members) on closing spam accounts and on stopping them at their sources.

This spam issue has been very frustrating for member and staff persons alike, and none of us are happy with the amount of success these spammers have had lately. We realize that this is a real and frustrating issue, and have been working accordingly.

We did find the root issue which allowed the spammers to create the spam with such rapidity. Unfortunately, due to the nature of the problem, it will be some time before this knowledge yields us real results. Up to this point, member reports and suggestions have played a pivotal role in our ability to diagnose how these were being made and in closing them. The Forum is a great place to share ideas, solutions, and the like—however it is public. Maybe we shouldn’t tip our whole hand to the spammers? Although, to be fair, that is only relevant for certain suggestions (I didn’t see any specific suggestions in that particular thread, but there are some others out there that did have some). You have, however, sent in a ticket. For staff responses to a suggestion, the help and support link is the way to go. Please keep that in mind going forward, as we are more than happy to work with you and implement any suggestions that we can.

I hope you understand our reasons behind the difference in our responses to forum posts and tickets as I listed above. If you disagree, or have further questions about that, let me know. I’m here to try and make the site a better place, and I’m open to all ideas and avenues that can yield a result.

If you have any other questions about what I’ve written here, or about any other chess.com related stuff, feel free to let me know.

Regards,

Here is the REAL response:

The thread for reporting has been moved to off=topic.

In what Universe does THAT make any sense? the friggin' thing should be pinned for easy access, not hidden in off-topic. I guess this will thread will end up in off topic too......;

AlCzervik

Thread moved to off-topic. Classic fail.

AlCzervik

This situation needs to be addressed by Erik.

(it all starts at the top)

JuniorXL

Simple suggestion, why not change forum posting to people who have played at least a few games? Would make this forum much better if you ask me.

AlCzervik

Suggestions have fallen on deaf ears.

YohannaShavit

And new spammers...

rTechnno_Waflles

oo!

I second Rooperi's worries. As this is not the first page who suffers from massive spam, there ought to be a technical solution to this problem, e.g. any script which filters multiple messages with same content?

Ok, because this spam thread actually has a purpose, I am fully behind it.

Just make sure its the last/only one now!

And great job in gettin a response.  I asked the question several days ago in the Moderator area, and we didn't get a single response.
