I don't know why bughouse would be faster.
I assume most efficient is playing a blitz arena + simultaneously playing more blitz in the open seek.
For fun I've done 3 game simuls of 3|0 in the past. If your rating is low enough that you can win about half the games, I think something like this would be the fastest way.

And if you're not doing simuls, then bullet arena is probably the most efficient, as more games = more arena points... they should probably fix that for future updates (just like blitz gives more trophies because the games are longer, the arena points should be adjusted the same way).

As a free to play player, best way is to join an hoirly blitz variant arena.
As i am stromg in variants, rather than spending hours playing blitz and losing some games, i simply gained twice trophies this way.
I could gain more if i spent more time, but since leagues started i only spent around 2 hours and half for playing here
The new league is really an amazing feature
