Say JJ, what's the problem with playing a stranger? Are you afraid of cooties? Get over it and Play the game. People who abort games are cowards and give chess a bad reputation.
Unrequested game
Appreciate the flame and lack of answer, but I only have time for a couple of games, and have more than enough friends in my group to keep me busy (even that is taking away from work). As it stands I am not able to fully participate in the group. I always enjoy a good game, but would rather be playing (and chatting) with an old friend who I don't often get to see than a total stranger.
As for your last comment, how can you even abort a game, except on chess.com? And since those on chess.com represent only a small fraction of chess players and are obviously already chess enthusiasts, how would an interaction between two enthusiasts give chess a bad reputation?
More likely, non or beginning players are turned off to the game because of smug, arrogant people whose personalities suck but hold themselves out to be chess enthusiasts, thus giving chess a bad reputation....
Food for thought.
Is it actually a game or just a game request? If it really is a a game, not sure how it came up, you might open a ticket to find out how it got there. You can also abort if the time gets close, if it takes too long for staff to look into it, so you don't lose any rating points (since no moves have been made).
Just logged on for the first time with the new format, and I have a game started with a player I don't know, that I didn't accept. Anybody else experience this? How do I abort this game without it affecting my rating?
