If you want it for free, (and mind you, you DO have that option here) you have to give up some things. Hey, I love getting the programming from NBC, CBS, Fox, and ABC for free (essentially)...but in return, I'm subjected to commercials. Think about what goes in to creating, maintaining, programming, advertising and bettering this site monthly. You can't expect these guys to just give it away. Capitalism ROCKS!!! I hope Erik and the guys make a mint....they deserve it.

I didn't say I was a better person....just a person with more benefits than one who doesn't pay. A person with benefits is better than that SAME person without.
I have been waiting for a forum post like this for a while now...
I use Chrome, and I don't get pop-ups. Sure, I'll use Firefox for Live Chess, but I hardly notice the pop-ups in Chrome because a ultra-super-duper-tiny message appears on Chrome: Pop-ups Blocked: 1
If you are sick of them, switch to a different browser or tighten your security levels. Or become a member!
P.S. I have joined 2 sites from ads on chess.com. I've looked at them, thought nah, why would I do that. Then the next day I find myself googling their names.
If there were no TV ads, there would be no TV programs.
Point proven! Case closed! 
That's the main reason I up graded, & hell I'm happy that I have!

We don't complain when we get ads on cable do we? So accept it. This site - Which in my humble opinion is the best chess site on the WWW - needs to make profits and that's one of the revenues sources available to do that.

I hate ads! Some of it just floats around online and attaches itself to any site it can others are less intrusive. They are inconvenient at best.
What I do is use one of the anti spyware products frequently so that my concentration isn't broken by the who wants to be a millionare tune or xray scanner ad pop up (hopefully).
There's no getting used to it, you've just got to learn to put up with it.

Same goes for me... there use to be no pop-ups and for the past two days, I've been experiencing it. Whys so suddenly? Its not like chess.com has gone down to this level!

The pop-up generator has infested your computer. It has nothing to do with chess.com -- chess.com is not generating them. Use a spyware fighter and clean your machine.

It's so annoying! All that these sites care about is making money, and they're about to go too far. I respect that they try to convince us to buy memberships with good features, but now they want us to buy memberships so we "won't have anymore popups?" That's just bulls**t.
Gotta say i am pretty "shocked" that people whine about these ads...I gotta give all my support to Erik and the staff, for making the best internett chess site in the history of the human race.
I just went from gold to diamond, and have to say that i am more than happy to support chess.com with some of my money. It makes the page better, and i enjoy it even more(is it possible?:D).
Nothing in this world is free. You dont go into a MD and get crancky because they dont give you a free burger. Its the most natural thing in the world that Erik and the staff want and has to make money. Everybody does(at least every buisness/company). They earn money(and i hope you becomes rich one day, Erik), and i get a lot of excellent features, endless hours of chess, great articles and all the other great stuff that is to be found on this site.
So non-paying members. I respect that some of you either dont have the money or just dont want to pay to be a member on this page, but dont bother wining and crying about how annyoing those ads are. Use a couple of cents pr day or shut up(am i allowed to say that word ?)
