Why are some people so obsessed with leagues?

You seem to be working under the incorrect assumption that everyone here is trying to improve their chess. Some (most?) are here to have fun.

chess is a game and games are supposed to be fun. I find leagues fun, so leagues aren't useless if they let people have fun.

In the past, such things were named "chocolate medals" in a disdainful way. Rewards that are just good to a 4 yrs old, like a "good behaviour" coupon or printed images. If you care to be such a thing, midway between animal and baby, sure then: do advocate swindle features such as "leagues".

Not to mention it does encourage frenzy play instead of studies. Is that bad? But yes it's bad.

On the side note, a lot of fuss has been produced by the concept of "cultural appropriation". And what is taking a name, such as "league" from the world of sports and competition, and turn it into a worthless laughtable reward for retards? Could this be wrong? Yes mom, this is plain wrong.

Next, they'll give you a military like medal of courage for doing lotsa puzzles. Wow. No thanks.
