Why is it green and not red ?? Is chess.com involved secretly with Greenpeace ?? Only that could explain such a friendly and familiar behaviour tendence between staff and members.

Most likely selected due to the info in the wiki article on green and marketing (listed above), and the fact that most otb tournament sets' dark squares are colored green.
