Black to move, which move is best?

Avatar of KeSetoKaiba

My instinct was that ...d5 was best because it strikes in the center and black will have a nice pawn duo on d5 and c5. Since your thread title said "why d5 is not a best move??" then I assumed that maybe best would be ...Ne5 (forks queen and bishop) and the line I mentally calculated was ...Ne5 Qe2 (engine prefers Qc3, but not much difference) ...Nxc4 Qxc4 ...d5.

However, the engine claims that ...d5 is indeed best (2nd best is close between ...Ne5 or ...Be7).

In any case, black is also much better because their piece development and central control is a lot better than white. The white knight on h3 isn't helping control the center (it probably belongs on f3) and the queen on f3 is misplaced there. If you want to know how I'd exploit the queen on f3, this video should help:

Probably first engine choice is “central fork trick” Nxe4 Qxe4 d5.

They're lying. d5 is the best move here. That's what I would play, and if that's what I would do, then it must be correct.

they literally just said d5 is best, he thinks that d5 is not best but rather an inaccuracy because he is looking at the wrong move.

In such a position where 3-4 moves are equally good, it makes no sense to speak of the "best move".

Bots are wrong sometimes.

That's why whenever Grandmasters play against them, it's never a total curb-stomp. They can easily spot when the move the bot calculated to be the best is actually wrong. Those moments simply don't occur often enough.

The wintrchess game evaluator is a great example of this, but even the chess.com evaluator can get it wrong sometimes.

Are you talking about bots or engines? What you say doesn't make sense either way.

I hate how vainglorious you are. Yes, you are a great chess player, but saying that you are always correct by saying "if that's what I would do, then it must be correct" just makes me feel like you're a narcissistic person that many detest, not due to your chess skills, if that were the case we would all hate magnus, but due to how uncouth you are.

Both players always move their d-pawns in almost every game. As they should. Exceptions are astronomically rare.

The central pawns d & e is ok to use it, the whole game of chess rely on that two pawns to control the center that why is good.

Maybe you are confusing with f pawns? That pawns is not good to move because you expose the kinks directly on danger.

Of course exist openings where you can use this pawns, but you must know to handle it.

oh i think so i got confused
