Why do so many people put their sensitive information in their Chess.com profile?

I have seen way too many people who just put their personal information, most commonly their full legal name or their face on their Chess.com profiles, like I don't think I want millions to know who am I or what I look like. Do these people just not care about their online safety or something?

A lot of players already have their information shown on fide databases for hundreds of millions to see. Plus 99% of the time people aren't able to do much with just your name. Also, a lot of players not just top players have their faces on their Fide profile or a news article after doing well in a tournament.

The only way your info can really be a problem is if you are being extremely toxic/hostile.

A lot of people are adults and at that point they don't really care too much. If it's a kid and they're putting their information on chess.com, well, they probably shouldn't.

I do it because I had no idea it showed public I thought it would think does this guy have a title and if not then it wont show it so I entered my name and where I live and it turns out its public so I just didn't know it was public

Maybe people just don't know any better; or maybe they're kids.

The internet is a great way of getting attention solicited or otherwise. You get to put it all out there. Somebody has to notice, right? Security becomes a secondary concern when existence itself is the primary concern. Funny they call it insecurity.
