maybe because ur usgin more time to move??? seriously?? what is this
why does my clock run faster than my opponents' ?

In the competitive underbelly of online chess, a notorious exploit called the "Lag Phantom" continues to plague Chess.com as of July 2025. This isn't fantasy it's a network manipulation hack using tools like Wireshark and Python scripts to inflate an opponent's latency, causing their clock to tick 10-20% faster in fast-paced games like bullet or blitz.
The vulnerability lies in Chess.com's WebSocket protocol for real-time synchronization. Cheaters set up a local proxy (., via Fiddler) to intercept packets and inject delays or duplicates tied to the opponent's session ID. This fools the server into applying "lag penalties," deducting extra seconds from the victim's clock as if their connection is faulty, while the hacker's time remains steady.
Proving cheating is hard amid real lag issues, but the Lag Phantom reminds players: In digital chess, time can be hacked, and vigilance is key. If your clock races ahead, it might be more than bad Wi-Fi.
The "Lag Phantom" tale is pure fiction. Never mind...
Your opponent is moving closer to the speed of light than you.
This is why I always play in low earth orbit. Every little advantage counts.

The lag is beyond a joke, played unrated games for months not one problem the second I switch to rated every game you start with missing seconds, even tho you've literally just pressed the new opponent button and the games not yet even started the clock is down like 5 seconds, five seconds ain't even passed since pressing the start button so how is it even possible that time has a lapsed, really is a mystery

Maybe try not playing on a literal potato?
I’m in the same boat… It seems like my clock runs faster when I’m playing an inferior opponent! Even when I’m in the same country. Very strange! It seems like it is used to even out the strength of the players. Then once in a while, I will get a post from chess.com correcting my ranking because of cheaters!
