why does my clock run faster than my opponents' ?

I’m in the same boat… It seems like my clock runs faster when I’m playing an inferior opponent! Even when I’m in the same country. Very strange! It seems like it is used to even out the strength of the players. Then once in a while, I will get a post from chess.com correcting my ranking because of cheaters!

The lag is beyond a joke, played unrated games for months not one problem the second I switch to rated every game you start with missing seconds, even tho you've literally just pressed the new opponent button and the games not yet even started the clock is down like 5 seconds, five seconds ain't even passed since pressing the start button so how is it even possible that time has a lapsed, really is a mystery

Maybe try not playing on a literal potato?
