This site started the public beta in May 2007. If you would like to read more about the history of the site, and how it became what it is today, you can see Erik's (site owner, CEO, man-in-charge, head honcho, boss, and all around good guy) series on "Buliding Chess.com" which can be found here: http://www.chess.com/news_/search.html?keyword=building .
I hope you continue to enjoy the site!
aw... that makes me so happy! i'll be honest - i built this site because i wondered the same thing: where is a site like this? it was kind of in bits and pieces around the web, but even then i found them lacking. and there wasn't a real community. anyway, i've tried to create my own home here and am glad that other's find it as comfy as i do :)
Hello all,
I'm a new member, just registered. Used to be a pretty serious player years ago, but I've been out of the game for a while now. I've dabbled here and there with Internet chess, but I've always been a bit disappointed at the resources available -- they always seemed to be either poorly done, or too expensive.
That is, until I discovered chess.com this evening while looking for a decent tactics trainer. What a FANTASTIC resource, at least from what I've explored so far! Finally, a nice live chess interface that's better than Yahoo and more affordably priced than ICC. Great tactics tester, too, very well done.
How long has this site been around? Did I just miss it before? I look forward to further exploration, and likely membership if I continue to return, but I just wanted to commend the site designers/owners.
