end game assistance
General tip: The biggest difference in the endgame is the importance of king activity. Your king can attack enemy pawns and help escort your passed pawns.
Silman's Complete Endgame course, organized by what you need to know at certain levels.
I concur with this statement, but while you wait for the book to arrive, or you wait for your next paycheck to buy the book, search the following - they are so basic and MUST be known to succeed. They are:
1) K+P vs K - When it wins, when it draws, and opposition. What happens when the pawn is in front of the king. When the king is in front of the pawn. Why is WPe5, WKe6, BKe8 a win for White no matter who is to move, but WPe4, WKe5, BKe7 only a win if it is Black to move?
2) Lucena's position. How does the player with the pawn win? How do you convert more pawns into this? Like R+3P vs R+2P into Lucena's position.
3) Philidor's Draw (or Philidor's position). How does the player down the pawn draw? How do you convert R+2P vs R+3P into philidor's position and draw?
K+P vs K is the driver of all other strategies, like when to trade. The other 2, I have achieved Philidor's position about 40 times over the board and Lucena's position about a dozen times, including once earlier this month over the board on January 10th with Black.
