I was playing a game and lost due to time because we both had a king and a rook left and i was unable to end it. I was wondering if anybody knows a strategy to take my opponent's rook and # him or even to # him without taking the rook. So, can anyone help?

This is a skewer

. Note that they are usually not forced and are only possible if your opponent is not paying attention.

Thank you for the intruction Phil_A_S. I've heard it called a fork but I geuss it's the same thing.
