How do you checkmate a king with a rook(tips for beginners)

??
The endgames king and queen vs king, king and rook vs king and finally king and bishop pair vs king are all easy and are all based on the same principle: the opponent king has to move, and with every move you restrict the king more. Easiest with the queen of course, but rook or bishop pair are the same, except they need protection from the own king.
For example:
Probably goes faster than this, but you dont need to optimize, just as long as you stay within the 50 move rule.
Bishops is also easy:
Again not optimized. It can be done much faster.
Queen is the same, only even more simple. King move, restrict, king move, restrict.

You need to use king to defend rook.
If you can enemy move the rook towards event king without check or capture, do so. Otherwise, move your king towards enemy king

Exactly. Taking the opposition is just what you shouldn't do.
The OP is a typical example of a guy who tries to teach something he doesn't understand. Usually the result is not good.
