So I was playing against a friend who had a King and rock and I only had a King left, so I was wondering if there was a way to win as a loneking without trying to win using the 50 move rule. Since its almost impossible if the opponent dosent blunder. Or is there a way to make him not be able to checkmate me. (Maybe King not having any possible places to move to.)

King and Rook vs King is a forced mate if the player knows how to do it. Lone king can only hope for a draw if the opponent doesn't know how to mate

KR vs. K is one of the 5 basic checkmates. It can always be done in less than 50 moves.
The other are: KQ vs. K, KBB vs. K, KBN vs. K, KNN vs. KP.

The last one is most difficult and not always possible in 50 moves,
depending if the pawn is advanced beyond the Troitsky line or not.
