R + N vs R + N How to?

This is the diagram after 29. Rc1 in a turn-based 3 days / move game. At this point I was feeling pretty confident I would win the game, but lacked the technique to "put it away". Without proper technique, my opponent was able to slowly munch on my pawns. So, after 29. Rc1, what should black play? I played 29... Rd8 in the game trying to push my d-pawn, but maybe this was the wrong idea?

Okay, so my opponent has played well for the last 13 moves, and again, I don't know what to play. My opponent just played 42. Ke3. I think this is still winning for black, but I'm not confident because I don't know the correct technique for this type of Rook Endgame. Advice?

Here is the full pgn if it helps. I'm sure I made several other mistakes and blunders during the game. But, mainly, I want to know what a good "plan" would be for black, or for white, in these types of endgames. Maybe these aren't the critical positions, and there is a different diagram I should be looking at. I don't know. Anything will help.

Also, this is my first pgn post. I'm really proud of that, as it took my awhile to learn how to use the program :)

You won. It might not have been pretty but you won. I'd have to say from the way you were talking I assumed you had blown a won game.

I assume you have already run the game through a computer. What did it say?

Basically, the ultimate goal in all endgames with pawns is to try to promote one of the pawns, or force the opponent to sacrifice material to stop a pawn. The first step to achieving this goal is usually to create a passed pawn, which you already have done. In rook endgames specifically, it is often said that rooks belong behind passed pawns, and this is very true here. 29...Rd8 was a very good move. Another general rule that applies all parts of the game is to trade off pieces when up material. You did this with 31...Rd4, but it there was a much better move. 31...Rb4! achieves the same thing, but you get to keep your other rook, whose purpose is to support the d pawn's advance.

notmtwain, nope, didn't run it through a computer ;) And didn't blow the win, just won a lot slower than I thought I could have.

browni4131, ah hah! I missed the move 31...Rb4! So, I had the right idea to trade when ahead, but the better technique would have been to trade the less active rook. Thanks for taking a look!
