The hardest endgame of all time

Afif_Mashkur

I really don't get the confusion. Am I missing anything? it seems easy. the king can't run as long as the Bishop remains in that diagonal. Ng3 is the mating move. the only worry is when the Black Knight goes to f5 preventing the mate. But if you just move around your Bishop along the diagonal, black still has to move the Knight again. and then it is mate.

The knight will move to e4, and if you wait it will check on f2/g5

The game I played using tablebases. Hope I won't get banned because of that.

Banned.

It was only against a computer in an unrated game for an experiment, it's not cheating to get a cheap rating.

Important point. You won't get banned, don't worry.

And besides, even if that were true Afif, this exact position is not the point. The point is B+N vs N

White to play and win before 50 moves

I looked at this with a tablebase

Its stupid hard

This isn't a challenging endgame.  If you have the qualifying idea / intent then white wins by force.  I played the position against the puter and won before I finished my sammich.

REAL challenging endgames are more complex,  and especially one where one is not technically winning but can test the opponent.   As soon as the position is clear it loses a lot of the "Difficulty"

*is rated sub-1000
