Are you saying "what?" to my reply?  So you are asking about one's favorite named endgame position without even knowing all the basic ones?  Ftaznic (spelling?) had mate in one against me (I resigned) with Epilette's Mate in South Carolina in I believe 2008.  It can be anywhere on the edge of the board.  I believe this one would have been WRc1, WRe1, WKd1, BQd3.  The mated King can be on any non-corner square on the edge of the board, his own rooks to each side of his own king and the opposing queen two squares away from the king.

Winning after 1. b8N+ Kd6 2. Nxa6 is NOT fun

I found the Knight promotion almost instantly. The Knight and Bishop checkmate is an interesting one indeed. I've studied it a good amount, so I have faith that I would convert it into a win. However, under tournament pressure, or low time controls/time pressure - I wouldn't call it "fun." Calling it "fun" would be my post-game analysis and showing off the game in "game showcase" or something, but only AFTER the win was converted. In the moment, I think "intense" or careful" better summarizes the position.

I know the winning techniques, but I still worry about botching up a won endgame - there is nothing "fun" if that happens. (Looking back - I'd call it "fun" but only AFTER the game is converted)

I like         White:  King on e6 Rook on a7 Bishop on e5.

Black:  King on e8 Rook on d1.

There are so many it's hard to name a favorite. In the ending Q vs P, I sometimes challenge friends with the position below, in which only one of Black's five legal moves is good for a draw.

Black to play and draw

Kc3 loses to Qd4+ followed by Qa1.

n9531l

Ke1 is the only drawing move. 1...Ke1 2, Qa5+ Kd1 3. Qa4 Kd2 4. Qa2 gives another position where Black has to be careful.

Yes, now is the time for Kc3.

Ke3 loses to Qg2 c1Q Qg5+

Ke2 loses to Qa2 Kd1(Kd3 Qb2 Kd2 Kd4) Ke4 c1Q Kd3

Ke1 loses to Qc4 which will force the same position after Ke2 eventually

Kc3 is the move

Impressive calculation, but it is not correct in every line. To be fair, this person posted the same position in this forum too https://www.chess.com/forum/view/endgames/important-position-in-q-vs-p the only drawing move is ...Ke1! here. If White plays Qc4+, then Black can eventually snag a draw after either ...Kd2 or ...Kd1. In the forum, check out post #37 where I lay out the drawing line.

I like positions that have some instructive value. The one below is simple, but it's a good one for beginners to  learn because of what it teaches about the principles of the K+P vs K ending.

White to play and draw
