Nah, there's a solution to draw. He already gave half the answer...

KvothDuval

ok i dont see it...

Promote to bishop.

Either a stalemate or minor piece vs rook draw.

KvothDuval

then rook takes...

Stalemate.

KvothDuval

oh... i get it =) thanks scottrf =) the rook is pinned...

InsanePlayer99

If he promotes to queen, doesn't it lead to draw too?

Swindlers_List

no because the queen can still move by taking the rook on c8

InsanePlayer99

Ah I see.

I remember a Fischer v Petrosian game where they had 4 Queens on the board, I got a headache trying to analyse it.

Chessmen are delicious cookies made by Pepperage Farm. They have the pieces stamped on them. Available at your local grocery store in the US. Pretty cool.

The only reason would be to avoid a stalemate.

Or to cause one

2 weeks ago I was paired against a little girl OTB, she only had her king. And she put it in a square when if I promoted my pawn to a queen I would have stalemate her.

I promoted to a rook and she resigned.

(it was a blitz tournament)

Yes, every player who's opponent has only a king has to be very carefull because a stalemate will not be funny and it would dissapoint him.
